Blowouts Are Crappy!

Our Thanksgiving "vacation" started on Sunday this year. We had to be here in American Fork early Monday morning so we decided to leave Sunday night after Hubby got off work at 8:00. I was already stressed because I hate traveling on Sunday, especially late in the evening. The night started off on a pretty good note though. Hubby got off an hour early...I already had the car packed...there were no delays. It was great :).

I was in a pretty good mood in spite of the giant table we had strapped to the top of the van (My brother made my mom a large dining table when he was in HS and needed to use it for his growing family). Our car's aerodynamic features were made obsolete. It made it sound like we were driving a train, it caught all the wind of the passing diesels...By the time we hit Cedar City, my good mood turned ugly!

The whole time I was saying, What was that noise? Did you feel that? Do you think the table is ok?...and all of the sudden we had a blowout. It was the first time I've ever experienced a blowout of that sort. J had plenty of the "other" kind when he was a wee babe. It's amazing how similar they are. They both stink, they're crappy, they take too long to clean up, and I sure could live without 'em!

One of the worst parts was that we were only 80 miles into the trip. We still had almost 200 to go and on a spare tire that has a max limit of only 50 MPH (we went 60). I learned several valuable lessons that night.

  • Changing a tire on the side of the freeway is very scary.

  • When you see someone stranded - Stop. It's a rare thing for people to do these days.

  • When you have a thought to check the tire pressure (or any other similar thought) before you head out on a road trip - OBEY!

  • Heavenly Father answers our prayers.

  • Hubby and J are so precious to me. As I was standing there watching Hubby change the tire, my thoughts drifted to how bad things could have been and I'm eternally grateful they weren't.
What a night!

Christmas Gifts

Now that I have my vinyl cutter working, I decided to make many of my Christmas gifts for neighbors and friends with it. There are so many fun and unique gift possibilities. If anyone is interested in making some too, just leave me a post or e-mail me (ashleejo@msn.com). I'll be sure to give you a good price!

love,
Ashlee

Stand a Little Taller Sunday

Your Divine Nature
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."
(Matthew 5:48)
"Believe in yourself. Believe in your capacity to do great and good and worthwhile things. Believe in the nature within you, the divine nature, that you are in very deed a son or a daughter of the living God. There is something of divinity within you, something that stands high and tall and noble. Get above the dirt and the filth of the earth and walk on a higher plane with your heads up, believing in yourselves and in your capacity to act for good in the world and make a difference."
(Stand a Little Taller - Council and Inspiration from Gordon B. Hinckley)

The New and The Old

I recently received a new calling in the YW and tomorrow I have to teach for the first time. I am a little nervous only because I know the girls are sad their other leader was released. I hate being the "replacement".

I wanted to make the lesson really good in hopes that they would warm up to me a little more. I've been trying to think of something special to do for them and this is what I came up with. (I know that a great lesson really has nothing to do with handouts, but I also know teenage girls love getting cute things. I hope it's cute enough!)
I bought a vinyl cutter last November and could not, for the life of me, figure out how to get it to work correctly. I spent many frustrating hours with the cutter and never got anywhere. It was awful! I gave up and it sat at my moms house for a year gathering dust. To make a very long story short I'll skip ahead to today when I made these tiles. They are my first vinyl creations! I am so excited to finally be able to use the cutter. It will be great!

I'm so grateful for mom, Zachary, and Lindsay who helped me today. I NEVER would have been able to do it if it weren't for them. They are wonderful!

Halloween

I love Halloween - it's one of my very favorite holidays. As a kid it's incredibly exciting. You get to dress up as whatever you want and people give you candy for doing it. It's great! Unfortunately there's that phase where you're too old to go trick-or-treating, which stinks...but then you become a parent and you get to go out once again. It's not exactly the same, but I love seeing the excitement on J's face. It brings back so many Halloween memories. :) I can't believe that another one has come and gone already.

Hubby had to work this year which was a bummer. J and I went to Grandma and Grandpa K's house for some yummy soup in bread bowls and then Grandma, Lindsay, J, and I all went trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. It was so much fun (did I mention that it was incredibly warm! I'm used to needing a coat on Halloween...we didn't even need a Jacket. crazy!). We were still out and about when Hubby got off work so he was able to join us for a while. Now we have all this Halloween candy I wish we didn't have...what to do with it besides eat it?
