Our Thanksgiving "vacation" started on Sunday this year. We had to be here in American Fork early Monday morning so we decided to leave Sunday night after Hubby got off work at 8:00. I was already stressed because I hate traveling on Sunday, especially late in the evening. The night started off on a pretty good note though. Hubby got off an hour early...I already had the car packed...there were no delays. It was great :).
I was in a pretty good mood in spite of the giant table we had strapped to the top of the van (My brother made my mom a large dining table when he was in HS and needed to use it for his growing family). Our car's aerodynamic features were made obsolete. It made it sound like we were driving a train, it caught all the wind of the passing diesels...By the time we hit Cedar City, my good mood turned ugly!
The whole time I was saying, What was that noise? Did you feel that? Do you think the table is ok?...and all of the sudden we had a blowout. It was the first time I've ever experienced a blowout of that sort. J had plenty of the "other" kind when he was a wee babe. It's amazing how similar they are. They both stink, they're crappy, they take too long to clean up, and I sure could live without 'em!
One of the worst parts was that we were only 80 miles into the trip. We still had almost 200 to go and on a spare tire that has a max limit of only 50 MPH (we went 60). I learned several valuable lessons that night.
- Changing a tire on the side of the freeway is very scary.
- When you see someone stranded - Stop. It's a rare thing for people to do these days.
- When you have a thought to check the tire pressure (or any other similar thought) before you head out on a road trip - OBEY!
- Heavenly Father answers our prayers.
- Hubby and J are so precious to me. As I was standing there watching Hubby change the tire, my thoughts drifted to how bad things could have been and I'm eternally grateful they weren't.

Oh, that's so crappy! But I'm glad you weren't driving alone when it happened.
Holy blowout!!! You need to frame and mount that thing in your house as a reminder to how blessed you are. Right over your bed would be a good spot!
We're glad you are okay.
I am glad you all are safe...therefore I must say that I was laughing about the comparison to James' baby diapers...laughing cause it is totally true!
At first when I read, "blow out" I automatically thought of a diaper...you can tell that I am in that Mom mode. Too bad...our Escort just got new tires, but I worried and worried before we changed them that I would have a blowout.
